About the Agate

Pink agate carries its color in bands rather than a wash: blush at the outer rings, deepening toward rose and dusty mauve, with white and gray lines drawn between the layers. The pink is mineral, a little earthy, not a candy color.

Light picks out the pale bands first. Near a window the thin edges of the stone go half-clear and warm, while the denser pink stays opaque, so the plate has both glow and weight in it at the same time.

How It’s Made

This is a small tray, 11" x 7", hand hewn from natural agate rather than assembled from pieces. The stone edge is electroformed, real metal grown onto the agate and permanently bonded, not a leaf or coating that can rub off, finished thick and metallic. Loop handles are fitted at either end in solid brass, and the loop shape gives a finger a proper hold when the tray is full.
