About the Agate

Purple agate runs from lilac through plum to a deep violet at the densest bands, with the gray and white lines that mark each growth layer cutting across. The color often sits unevenly, strong through one part of the slab and faded through the next.

Violet is a color that changes under bulbs. Warm light pulls the stone toward wine and brown; daylight brings the blue in the purple forward. Where the stone thins at the rim, light passes through and the band turns clear amethyst.

How It’s Made

The tray is 11" x 7", hand hewn from a natural slab rather than built from joined pieces. Electroformed brass rings the stone, which means real metal grown onto the agate and permanently bonded instead of a coating applied on top. Loop handles sit at either end in solid brass, sized to be picked up one-handed and carried from the kitchen to the table.
