About the Agate

Rose quartz makes the handles on this tray. It is a pale pink stone, cloudy rather than clear, and the color drifts across a piece instead of banding, so each handle reads as one soft block of pink.

The top is white crystal agate, which does band: layers of white, cream and pale gray with crystal pockets showing where the stone was cut through. A drifting pink next to a banded white is a quieter pairing than two patterned stones would be.

How It’s Made

The 9" x 14" plate is built from pieces of agate in similar tones and colors, joined with a clear epoxy resin poured over them so the top sits firm and flat. Brass is electroformed around the stone, grown onto it and permanently bonded rather than laid on as a coating that can rub off. Rose quartz handles set on solid brass are fitted at the short ends, and the finish runs across the handles and the tray together.

Details

  • Material: white crystal agate, pieces of similar tones and colors joined by a clear epoxy resin poured over them to make one firm plate
  • Size: 9" x 14"
  • Finish: gold, silver or rose gold electroformed, on the handles and the tray
  • Handles: rose quartz set on solid brass
  • Food use: serve with a liner or servingware rather than setting food straight onto the stone

Both stones are natural, so the pink in the handles and the layout of the agate on the top change from one tray to the next.

A Gift For

Rose quartz handles in a rose gold finish give this one an obvious reason to be chosen for Mother's Day, a bridal shower or an engagement. It also works as a housewarming gift for a first apartment, where a soft piece has somewhere to sit.

Use and Care

Wipe the stone and the brass clean with a soft, damp cloth and dry them at once. Keep food on a liner or in servingware rather than on the stone itself.
